Arcadia High Senior Ryan Leung Earns Perfect AP Exam Score

 

 

Arcadia High School senior Ryan Leung can now add the word “perfect” to his resume. 60,519 students across the world took the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science A Exam in 2017. Leung, and only 111 other students on Earth, earned every possible point on this exam.

“I felt pretty confident going into the test, but also a bit nervous,” shared Arcadia High senior Ryan Leung. “It was pretty exhilarating to get my test results back. I definitely had not been expecting to get a perfect score on the exam, and I never imagined that I'd be able to pull off something like this.”

According to the College Board’s AP Exam Program Summary Report, over 4.9 million AP exams were taken in 2017, and of those exams, only 511 students worldwide earned perfect scores.

“Based on these numbers, achieving a perfect AP Exam score is approximately one in 10,000,” explained Leung’s Arcadia High AP Computer Science A teacher Brent Reiske during Arcadia Unified’s March 13 Board of Education meeting where Leung was recognized by the Board for this rare achievement.

“I am unbelievably proud of Ryan,” expressed Arcadia High School Principal Dr. Brent Forsee. “Achievements like this also highlight the amazing work our teachers, counselors, and staff do to support our students’ pursuit of studying and excelling in what they are passionate about.”

What’s next for Leung? “I'm definitely planning on pursuing a career in computer science in the future,” confirmed Leung. “I'm still deciding on whether or not I want to focus on a particular sub-field of the industry. I'm leaning towards software engineering at the moment, although I have also considered working on artificial intelligence due to its recent rising popularity.”

For the second consecutive year, Arcadia High School’s expansive AP and Honors program, which offers students 20 different AP and eight Honors courses to choose from, earned the Arcadia Unified School District a place on the College Board’s 8th Annual AP® District Honor Roll. Likewise, Arcadia High School has been a distinguished U.S. News and World Report Gold Medal School three times, an honor bestowed on less than 3 percent of the more than 19,000 schools in the country. Similarly, Newsweek named Arcadia High on its Top Public High Schools in America list. Arcadia High was also recently identified by Niche.com as being in the top 2 percent of the best public high schools in California, and for the second consecutive year, Arcadia High’s 2017 graduating class had at least one student accepted into every Ivy League school in the country.
