School Site Council Meeting Minutes

April 24, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 3:20pm.  

All members were present, except Paul Childs and Wayne Dequer. Shelli Strintz was also present. Dr. Fox is facilitating.

Minutes- Minutes were approved from the previous meeting.

Election Results:

a. Dr. Fox announced that Letty Chen and Sherri Liang were elected to serve for the school year 2006-2007 and 2007-2008.

b. Student elections will be held in June for current 6^th and 7th graders.

c. Students elected in the June election will serve Sept 2006 to June 2007.

d. Students may run again if they would like to stay involved.

e. Teacher representatives will be elected by their peers during the last week of May. We have three teacher vacancies.

Poetry Month:

a. The focus of this is to increase the students reading comprehension, symbolism, and descriptive writing skills.

b. This activity is helping the student understand the difference between the complex skill it takes to understand symbolism vs just reading something. .

c. This program is mainly informal this year and will progress next year.

d. Mr. Acker, Dr. Green, and Mrs. Cosgrove all brought samples to share of what they are doing in their classes.

e. As a review this program was introduced to introduce poetry to the students and how to read it and understand it.

Algebra:

a. Algebra will be the next topic for the school plan.

b. One goal is to develop Bench Mark tests.

c. The team would like to develop a final test for 8th graders.

d. Geometry students will not take the number sense test.

Happenings:

a. STAR testing begins on May 1st

b. Next meeting will be 5/22/06.
