Make a note on your calendar, September 5th! Holly Avenue PTA will host a "Welcome Back-to-School Coffee" in the cafeteria on 9/6 at 8:30am. Meet our principal, Mrs. Blackstock, and your PTA members! It's a fun time to visit with other parents, have coffee and enjoy delicious treats. It will also give you a chance to see how you can make a difference and volunteer to help our school have another successful year. School Tours will be provided as needed. Please mark your calendar for Wednesday, September 20th, as we will have available to all students, teachers, staff, and alumni of Holly Avenue, a "Ceramic Memory Tile Painting Day!" The costs are $20 for 1 tile, $35 for 2 tiles, and $50 for 3 tiles. Make as many as you like! Time 2:45pm to 7:30pm (or later). More information will be available in the packet that will be sent home with each child the first day of school. Money raised will go towards the "Holly Avenue Piano Fund". We welcome you to join us at our first PTA Meeting on Wednesday, September 27th, at 7:00pm. This is a great opportunity to meet new parents, make new friends, become involved and learn what is happening at your school. Membership Drive- Join PTA through the Holly Avenue PTA Membership Drive beginning September 5th. PTAs get results. Studies show that kids do better in school when parents are involved. Test scores improve and attendance increases. PTAs keep parents informed. Involved parents can understand the challenges schools face and become part of the solution. KIDS Recycling Challenge--Start bringing in all your CLEAN and DRY plastic shopping, grocery, newpaper, & laundry bags of any color and type and place them into the large Green Walmart Recycling Bins as soon as school begins. Please remove everything from the bags prior to recycling, including receipts and strings from drawstring bags. Holly Avenue will earn $5 for every 60 gallon collection bag turned in from Sept 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007. Clip and Save BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION--Each Box Tops is worth 10 cents for our school. There are many participating products. New brands added this year are Kleenex, Cottonelle, Scott, Viva, Saran Wrop, Cling Plus and Hefty bags, plates, cups and Zoo Pals. Check for a current list of participating products at www.boxtops4education.com. This year we will be sending a Race Around California collection form home for each child to complete. They can tape or staple a Box Top to each square and turn in the form to their teacher or school office when it is completed. Each child who completes a form will receive a prize. In addition, look for the limited edition SUPER BOX TOPS which are worth 30 cents. Please send these in separately from the collection forms. Shop at Ralphs Market from September 6th to 19th. Use your Ralphs card from September 6-19 to purchase participating products and earn additional Bonus Box Tops. A Bonus Box Top Coupon will print out on your receipt. Turn the coupons into your child's teacher or school office. Save Tyson Project A+ labels--Each is worth 24 cents. Turn them into your teacher or school office. Please start saving Campbell's Labels for Education--Holly Avenue is going to start participating in this program this year. Clip and save the UPC's from a variety of products such as Campbell's soups and meals, Pepperidge Farms cookies and crackers, Franco-American, Swanson soups and broths, Prego and V8 beverages. Each UPC is worth 1 point. Some specially marked products will contain a UPC worth 5 points. We will not need the entire soup labels anymore, but only the UPC with the Campbell's kid logo. Turn these into your teachers, school office or the green collection box in the hallway across from the office. IMPORTANT!! For anyone who participated in the 10% Back to School Program at Vons and/or Pavilions between July 19th through September 5th. In order for Holly Avenue to actually receive the funds, you must ask the cashier for your Rewards Certificate from September 10th to October 7th. The Rewards Certificate will include how much you earned for the school and codes that need to be inputted into the computer by the Scrip Coodinator in order for the school to receive the money. It must be turned into the School Office for the Scrip Coordinator before October 17th. The 10% will not automatically go to your school. If you do not get the Reward Certificate or it doesn't get entered before the expiration date of October 17, Holly Avenue will not receive the funds even though you purchase the participating products.
