From holly-avepta@ausd.net Wed May 3 17:19:14 2006 From: holly-avepta@ausd.net (Holly-AvePTA Holly-AvePTA) Date: Wed, 03 May 2006 09:19:14 -0700 Subject: [Holly-Ave] Teacher Appreciation Week Message-ID: Next week, May 8-12 is recognized as Teacher Appreciation Week at Holly Avenue School. We all know how much you appreciate your teachers and how much they do for you. You can show your appreciation to your teacher in lots of ways this year. Think about what he or she would enjoy receiving from you (hint: teachers love hand-made cards with your own pictures and words of appreciation the most!) * maybe it's flowers or candy, maybe it's a small purchased item or a gift card. Many teachers would also like to get special supplies to use in the classroom like extra children's scissors, fun stickers, disposable cameras, music CDs, party paper goods, tissues and hand wipes, or art supplies. These are just ideas-- you know your teacher best! You can bring one little gift each day, or make one "big" gift on one day. It's up to YOU! PTA will be throwing a luncheon for the teachers on Monday, May 8th to kick off the week. We can't wait to show our appreciation of what our teachers do for Holly Avenue. Thank you students for your support of your teacher(s). Sincerely Yours, Holly Avenue PTA P.S. Any questions, please direct them to this email address. Thank you, Kathy Yamane From holly-avepta@ausd.net Fri May 5 01:37:17 2006 From: holly-avepta@ausd.net (Holly-AvePTA Holly-AvePTA) Date: Thu, 04 May 2006 17:37:17 -0700 Subject: [Holly-Ave] HOLLY AVENUE NEEDS YOU! Message-ID: We need help and we are not proud to ask for it....PLEASE, PLEASE HELP! Holly Avenue is proud to announce that we are reporting 15,406 volunteer hours for this school year! That is amazing! And it is all because of each and every one of you! Whether you are working in the classrooms, photocopying, or doing work for Holly Avenue PTA, you are appreciated. In order to keep up the awesome support to our school, we are asking for your help in filling very important Committee Chairpersons positions in Holly Avenue PTA for next year. We've included a list of positions available where we need help. We are hoping you will think about it and reply by May 30th. Please reply to Dana Thompson at dthompson@altrionet.com or 626-510-9220. 1) Disaster Preparedness: Need a parent volunteer to assist chair. 2) Inspiration: At monthly PTA meetings, share a quote of the day or an uplifiting story, etc. 3) Intercultural Committe Representative-attend Intercultural meetings monthly, bring back report. 4) Recycling Can Drive-collect recyclables, and recycle for Playground fund. 5) Reflections: This position can be co-chaired. At the beginning of the school year, make copies of the applications for the children. Collect the artwork and get judges to judge entries. Send winning entries onto City Level judging. Recognize the children. Assist with the Art Fair at the Public Library in the Spring. 6) Scholarship Committee-Read applications from AHS seniors who have attended Holly Avenue. Assist Principal in decision for recipient. 7) Scrip Coordinators: This position can be co-chaired. We've raised over $12,000 in SCRIP this year at Holly. Would need at least 3 assistants to help with SCRIP in addition to two people to co-chair. 8) Translators If you would rather volunteer to assist for Book Fairs, Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, Generation's Day, Fifth Grade Party, District Art Fair assistance, or many of the other events that go on at Holly, please e-mail Dana Thompson with your name and phone number for us to contact you. Message-ID: It's Teacher Appreciation Week! An understanding heart is everything in a teacher, and cannot be esteemed highly enough. One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feeling. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child. I know, indeed, of nothing more subtly satisfying and cheering than a knowledge of the real good will and appreciation of others. Such happiness does not come with money, nor does it flow from fine physical state. It cannot be brought. But it is the keenest joy, after all; and the toiler's truest and best reward.
