FIFTH Grade Parents-Make SURE YOU attend the orientation for First Avenue Middle School!!!  This week at our Holly Avenue Auditorium.  Get important information that you can use now about our student's transition onward and upward!

Wednesday’s Founders’/Honorary Service Program-FYI, Please plan to enter the auditorium from the SIDE doors.  The FRONT entrance to the school is scheduled to be closed and blocked into the auditorium. We will have a sign and map on the front door. Since it will be dark, we should be a path of lights. The easiest way to get to the auditorium is the sidewalk past the cafeteria and then up (and down) the stairs above the staff lounge. However, the only entrance from the back of the auditorium is on the opposite side across from rooms 29.

***SCRIP NEWS*** In these economic times, even as we are watching our purchases, we can support and help our school with the purchase of SCRIP, every little contribution will help out First Avenue!  
As you plan your family's shopping needs, remember that you can purchase SCRIP cards for all your favorite grocery stores (99 Ranch, Albertsons, Arcadia Supermarket, Hong Kong, Safeway/Vons/Pavilions and Whole Foods).  Participating retailers contribute a percentage to our school.  Scrip can be ordered anytime.
 
KidsArt Drawing Classes - Classes run from April 4, through June 13, and cost $15.00 per session.  Pick up a yellow registration form in the office. 

AEF Summer School  Catalogs were distributed to students at school.
Academic year courses offered June 16 - July 31, M - F
Academic semester courses offered June 22 - July 30, M - Th
AEF is offering an early registration discount this year and/or a payment plan option.  Early registration is through April 18. Sports Camps June 15 - August 7, dates vary depending on the sport.  Sports information will be in a separate catalog and ready for distribution in early April.  Sports Camp registration received on or after June 1st will be charges a $25 late fee.

LAST Days TO BRING IN THOSE PLASTIC BAGS- Each class will earn $5 in Office Depot gift cards for every 60 gallon trash bag they fill with clean, dry plastic bags.  You can help earn your class and teacher $5, $10...$25 or more!  .  Bring the bags in to your classes through March 31st. Remember that all bags must be clean, dry and not have been in contact with any food.    RECYCLE!  Do a GREAT thing for the Earth, your environment and your Class!  RECYLING

Dear Holly Avenue Parents,
 
The School Site Council is an integral part of our school community.  It is composed of parents and school staff memebers elected from within their own constituency.  The responsibilites of School Site Council members involve oveseeing the School Based Programs at Holly Avenue School and their respective budgets.  Additional decision making responsibilities have included school uniforms and technology.  

Elected members serve for a TWO-YEAR TERM.  The by-laws also include the election of two alternates who will act as non-voting members of the Council for one year and then become a voting member for two years.  Thus, the alternate's term is three years.  The time commitment to the School Site Council is approximately 1 1/2 hours per month.  Meetings are held at 2:45p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month except December.  It is an easy way to learn and become involved in the many important aspects of Holly Avenue School.   

This year we will need to elect two (2) parents to replace the two members completing their term on School Site Council as well as two (2) alternate parents.  If you would like to nominate someone (including yourself) to be a member of the Council, please complete the following form and return it to the HOLLY AVENUE OFFICE by FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 2009.

The names of the nominees will be posted in the office by May 1, 2009.  Elections will be held at an open meeting of the Site Council on May 19, 2009.

We urge you to give thoughtful consideration to a nominee.
