Hugo Reid is having its first ever "Book Swap" program for the ELEMENTARY CAMPUS ONLY. On Monday June 2nd and Tuesday June 3rd, students in Grades 2-5 who bring in a book they have already read and want to give up will get a tally next to their names in the "Book Buck" list. (Students should bring books to hand to their teachers NO LATER THAN Wednesday morning 8:20 a.m.) There is no limit to the number of books a child brings in. He or she will get a CREDIT of one "Book Buck" for each book brought in. The "Book Buck" CREDIT can be redeemed on Friday 6/6 for a different book another child has brought in. Students will visit the Elementary Cafetorium during their regular school hours to select a different book they might not have read yet. PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO BRING IN A BOOK and participate in our Book Swap! Additionally, I need volunteers on Friday 6/6. If you can help with the book swap that day, please reply to lan.nguyen@lacity.org with the hours you can work. We will also be setting up and sorting through books after school on Thursday 6/5. We really need your help with this, too. :-) Thank you! It was so fun and joyful. Special thanks to the many parents who showed up so early to set up and those who stayed late to clean up!!!! The "stars" were our kids, but the stars in my book were the organizers: Co-chairs Carol Vizcarra and Talin Nigolian-Sanchez. Extra kudos for our co-chair in charge of all the decorating, Robin Guerette, which was FABULOUS. THANKS to our volunteer co-chair Paula Vento for organizing the volunteers and all her TIRELESS work, including bringing her wonderful mom and of course Tom Vento! Thanks to Denise Verret for organizing and donating all of the fun carts: ice cream, popcorn and churros! Thanks to our wonderful DADS for organizing the games: Cung Nguyen, David Georgian and Fernando Sanchez. A double thanks to the Nigolian-Sanchez team for posting photos above so we can view!!! And to the rest of the team for all they did to help out, on top of their main responsibilities... Lisa Sommers for the T-shirt, Diane Ortiz for the food, Kris Mathison for keeping our books straight. Last but not least, thanks to those who didn't even have 5th graders but helped out!!!!!! Our DEEP DEEP THANKS to Sarah Javaheri for taking photos of the event and Patty Soldo for the photos with the backdrop that were handed out on Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And of course who can forget the team who did the YEARBOOK... Helen Wong Ung and her team... who are listed in the yearbook. PLEASE PLEASE forgive me if I missed anyone (or mis-spelled your name) because, you know, MEMORY is the 2nd thing to GO at my age! It was a great party. I wish you all a great and safe summer. ***Lan Ngyuen From hugo-reid@lists.ausd.net Fri Jun 27 17:07:27 2008 From: hugo-reid@lists.ausd.net (hugo-reid@lists.ausd.net) Date: Fri, 27 Jun 2008 09:07:27 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [Hugo-Reid] Computer donations Message-ID: <301376.38249.qm@web50101.mail.re2.yahoo.com> --0-993113248-1214582847=:38249 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Happy summer=A0greetings to you!=20 Lan wanted me to send this out to you all.=A0 Hope you're having a terrific= summer! =A0 Hello all, =A0 My name is Erin Lewis-Morris and I am a teacher.=A0 Next year, half my clas= s will be 10 disadvantaged, struggling-in-school third graders (mostly boys= ).=A0 We have two excellent computer intervention programs that run via the= internet through our server at our school (and of course, they will receiv= e a lot of intervention in small groups with me).=A0 I currently have 5 old= iMac G3's that run the two programs.=A0 I am looking for 4 or 5 computers = to add to my pieced together collection that will connect to the internet t= o run the two programs.=A0 I am hoping to have all 10 kids on them at the s= ame time, so I can have time to work with the other 10 kids who are very hi= gh academically.=A0 The computers can be Mac or PC.=A0 (I am pretty sure th= ey just have to be computer internet capable, but I have asked our computer= dude to e-mail me the least amount of capabilities they need to have.)=A0= =20 =A0 If you know of anyone that is replacing their old computer or has a few ext= ra ones around, please e-mail me at dredd1@earthlink.net=A0 !=A0 Feel free = to pass this e-mail on, if you know of someone that might be able to help!= =A0 Even though we think it is an ancient computer, you'd be amazed at what= I have gotten them to do- so Please HELP!!! =A0 Thank you!
