Transitional Kindergarten (TK), Kindergarten & First Grade

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)
Transitional Kindergarten is available for those children who will reach the age of four years old on or before September 1. Transitional Kindergarten allows children “the gift of time” – an additional year to grow and learn in an environment that supports differences in growth and maturity rates.  Students who turn 4 after September 1 must wait until the next school year to enroll.

New in the 2025-2026 School Year!
Beginning in the 2025-26 school year, all children who turn four years old on or before September 1, 2025 will be eligible to enroll in TK! Students who participate in TK attend school daily, including a scheduled lunch and recess.

Kindergarten
Our Kindergarten program has a rigorous academic focus and addresses all of the California Department of Education Kindergarten Content Standards between August and June. Traditional Kindergarten is available to children who reach the age of five years old on or before September 1 of the current school year.

For more information on ways to prepare your child for school, see the resources for families below.

TK and K Camps
Arcadia Unified offers two camps to help our youngest students transition into a school routine. We welcome all incoming Transitional Kindergarten (TK) students to TK-Camp, a no-fee Transitional Kindergarten Summer School Program. We also offer K-Camp to new students that did not participate in TK and are new to elementary school. These are specially designed programs to introduce young students to elementary school and help support them at the start of their Arcadia Unified journey. You will receive information on registering for K-Camp during the enrollment process. Camps start in June of each year and your child must be enrolled in AUSD to participate - so don't wait to enroll!

First Grade
Arcadia Unified will verify that students have complied with legal requirements for a comprehensive health screening upon school entry, in addition to immunization requirements. Our school district offers vision and hearing screening examinations only. Please thoroughly read through the resources below for more information. You will also find the CHDP Health Exam Report below. This can be printed and brought to your healthcare provider doing the exam.

Oral Health Assessment Requirement

All students are required to have an oral health assessment (routine dental check-up) by May 31 of their first year in public school (California law, Education Code Section 49452.8). If students have not had a routine dental check-up, they will need to schedule one and have their dental provider complete the form. If students have had a routine dental exam in the past 12 months this will meet the requirement, but their dental provider will still need to complete the form. The letter and the required form can be found below.
