The Great California ShakeOut

On Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 10:15 a.m., Arcadia Unified School District will join millions of Californians as we all “drop, cover, and hold on” in the Great California ShakeOut. We are proud to say Arcadia Unified School District has participated in this annual earthquake drill every year since its inception in 2008. The safety of our students and staff continues to be our highest priority.

Students and staff from all schools and offices will participate in this important safety drill, which will include realistic scenarios and allow staff to review safety plans, procedures, and supplies. For parents, this is a great reminder to ensure your child’s emergency information is updated at your child’s school, and to review your family's safety plan.

To further help communications during a real emergency, AUSD has created a hotline number you can call and listen to a recorded message. This is a backup measure in the event that your internet, or ours, isn’t working but the phone lines are. (626) 821-1783. As you know, we always try to communicate as promptly as possible during emergency situations via phone/email blast, in addition to posting information on our website at www.ausd.net. Our Facebook and Twitter pages will also be utilized to communicate during emergency situations, and we highly recommend you follow those pages. Social media is often the fastest form of communication during emergencies.

For your safety and convenience we have attached “The Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety” in English, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, and Spanish. We appreciate your support and help in ensuring our schools are safe and enjoyable learning environments for our students and staff. You may visit the Great California ShakeOut website for more information and resources.
